I guess its time to write a blog that's important. Not that others are not important. I guess I mean important to me.

I just finished a semester of Environmental Sociology. It's a newer branch of sociology that focuses on how humans interact and our social structure affects our relationship with nature. This class has opened my mind to a few things. I thought I'd share them with you guys and please feel free to respond as you see fit.

obesity has been on the rise since technology has been on the rise--kids don't go outside and play, they play video games. Video games create an alternative reality. My computer time was limited as a kid, we were made to go outside, but the thing is we enjoyed it! being outside was fun! you got to build forts and use your imagination. You worked up an appetite for supper. Nothing like feeling exhausted after a long day of play outside. now kids don't want to leave their houses. I think parents need to force their kids to leave the house.

Some of the problem of this is that most families need to have 2 incomes. Mom or dad can no longer stay at home at watch the kids. Most kids spend most of their time away from home and when they are home, parents are exhausted and don't want to hear the whining and the questions, they just want to relax. I've sat my son in front a movie to get my house clean after a day at work.

Deforestation is less harmful than using computers.
People don't want to use paper bags and they use computers to cut down on paper. True is, computer pollute much more than does the logging industry. For some reason, computers companies want you to believe that you're helping the environment by buying computers. LOL. Computers contain at least 25 hazardous chemicals. stricnine, formeldahyde, Tetrabromobisphenol A, forms of ether, Polybromine dephenyl ether . That's just to name the few you might recognize. I don't know if any of you have been in a computer component factory. Scary stuff. Another scary thing is that of the 5 reported cases of brain cancer in the world back in 2002, 4 of them were IBM workers. You can find info on the law suits on the internet. The employess are often times not given protective gear.

population is not the problem. it's distribution of goods.

Each country in the world is alloted a percentage of the world's resources. I'll bet you can guess who over on their usage. The United States, Canada, and the UK..

The developed countries have this idea that the rest of the world should live at our standard of living. Were this actually to happen, there would not be anywhere near enough resources in the world to support us even for a day.

It's funny that the developed countries want the third world countries to develope. Seems they really don't. Many times the United States in particular send out ships filled with waste and what do we do??? we give third world countries money to build schools or whatever in exchange for them letting us dump our toxic waste. Or mysteriously ships with toxic waste just magically come back to the US empty. All ships are suppose to be tracked and the toxic waste is suppose to be accounted for. American's don't want in our yards. Remember "not in my backyard" well lets just ship off to Bosnia or Uganda. We all know they're too stupid to question.

It's also a racial factor. The poorer ethnic communities around the country are the ones that end up with the dump sites and the pollution and the birth defects. They don't speak English, so why should explain it to them?? it's sickening.

If no one is keeping tabs on US activities, then what's too keep us in line?? It's not God that's for sure. I do think God has forgotten us.

I'm going to come back to this, but I'd rather collect some more data for the topic to be as effective as I'd like it to be.
